BROMSGROVE'S planners were angry after it emerged that a conservationist has successfully applied for a preservation order to be put on the former stationmasters's house at Bromsgrove railway station. The building, which dated from 1844, stood in the way of a new housing development.

STAFF at Avoncroft Museum enlisted the help of Bromsgrove MP Hal Miller to help it fight a new law. In future if the museum wanted to erect a rescued building on its site it would have to pay a planning application fee to the district council. These ranged from between £40 and £1,000.

THOUSANDS of weekend shoppers faced disappointment after Bromsgrove District Council won a High Court injunction banning a market being held on land adjoining the Queen's Head pub at Stoke Pound on the grounds that it contravened Sunday trading laws. The organisers' claim that they were Jewish, and therefore it did not apply to them, had failed to impress the judge.

THE Rubik cube craze was sweeping Bromsgrove with hundreds of youngsters and many adults trying to solve the puzzle from three billion choices. The Sincerely Yours shop in Bromsgrove reported selling some 300 cubes a week.

RESIDENTS in the Bromsgrove village of Blackwell were celebrating having won a stay of execution in their fight to stop a plan to build 200 new homes in Linthurst Newtown.
