Barnt Green Spartak 1 Continental Star 0

NATHAN Glanville grabbed the winner as Barnt Green enjoyed a winning start to the Midland Combination Premier Division at the Victoria Ground on Saturday.

Spartak fielded eight new faces but Glanville's 15th minute goal made the difference.

Manager GJ Singh admitted that for him the season didn't start until Bank Holiday Monday's home clash against Massey Ferguson.

He said: "For me the game against Massey Ferguson kicks off our season properly because that's when I'll have my squad 99 per-cent ready.

"We've still got players missing and the new players are still settling in, so I've set a target of seven points from our first three matches."

The manager hopes to have secured striker Wayne Lawley by Monday's game. The hitman has played for Oldbury, Tividale and Causeway United. Singh also pin-pointed a defender as a crucial addition.

Midfielder Curtis Karim and wideman Lee Gough have been loaned out to West Midlands League Premier Division side Dudley Sports for a month. Gough is on the fringes of the first team squad, while Karim needs games to regain match fitness after joining Spartak from Kenilworth Town.

Spartak face a testing Bank Holiday weekend with a trip to title challengers Nuneaton Griff this Saturday ( 3pm kick off) and Massey Ferguson on Monday (7.45pm kick off).

The manager is hopeful that he will get more fans down to watch them play at Bromsgrove Rovers' Victoria Ground.

Singh said: "I'm hoping that we get a lot more fans down as we'll be in a great stadium and it's a Bank Holiday Monday."

Tickets for the game at home to Massey Ferguson cost £3.
