CHAIRMAN Tom Herbert has made a plea to Bromsgrove Rovers' fans to come out in force and support the club, as it looks to continue its strong start in the Southern League Midlands Division One.

Rovers play their first Saturday home game of the embryonic season by taking on Rothwell Town at the Victoria Ground (3pm kick off).

The chairman is eager for bigger crowds to get behind manager Rod Brown and the squad.

He was also excited by Rovers' all-action performance in the 2-1 win over Sutton Coldfield Town last Saturday.

He said: "Now it's time for the fans to really get behind the team. We've started the season with a win and a brilliant performance, now we need to push on and improve and the fans are key."

The chairman is hoping a strong start to the season will attract back fans who have stopped watching the team after several failed attempts to win promotion in recent seasons.

However, the addition of experienced players like Carl Heeley and Mark Taylor have raised fans' spirits.

Manager Rod Brown praised his side's dominance after they defeated Sutton, thanks to striker Nathan Lamey's brace. Rovers could have ran up a cricket score and Lamey missed a penalty.

Brown said: "If you compare the number of chances that we had and Sutton had it was incredible. We created dozens of chances to score and I think Sutton made two clear cut chances. If the penalty had went in then I think in all honesty we would have notched up a big score.

"I'm very happy to get all three points as Sutton have been a bit of a bogey side for us in the past."

Lamey is targeting scoring 30 goals for Rovers this season.

He said: "I normally place my penalties but the one against Sutton I decided to blast and it was a mistake. I've set myself a target of scoring 30 goals this season and hopefully I can get close to that."
