Spa students are celebrating another set of bumper A-level results.

Pupils at Droitwich Spa High School, in Briar Mill, were left reflecting on the last two years of hard work when they collected their results last Thursday.

A pass rate approaching 90 per cent left most High School pupils pleased with their efforts as the prospect of a dream job or university placement edged ever closer.

Good news for the school also saw a quarter of all students achieving the equivalent to three grade As, with seven students getting an impressive three straight A grades.

Headteacher Allan Foulds said: "There are some outstanding individual performances, and it is particularly pleasing that this is across the ability range. There is a notable increase in performance in the middle of the grade range. I pay tribute to the hard work of students and staff and the support of parents. I am delighted that so many young people in our town can feel proud that they have earned their place in the next stage of their education."

Mr Foulds also highlighted the achievements of pupils who had taken an A-level equivalent Advanced Vocational Certificate (AVC) at the school.

"Those pupils who took an AVC should also get a mention for their good performance. We are expanding the range of courses we are doing at the school, which gives people more options. More pupils have taken a AVC this year and done really well."

He also added that he feels there is no evidence to suggest that the exams are getting easier. "Pupils should be supported and we should all understand the pressure students go through and efforts they have to put in.

"I am confident that many pupils will take the next step in their education and predict an excellent level of places being taken up by our students."
