A MUM-TO-BE had a miraculous escape when she was involved in a four car collision on a busy road in Lickey End.

The unnamed pregnant woman, in her early 30s, was driving a VW Polo along Birmingham Road last Sunday night at 10.50pm when she was involved in the incident.

Birmingham Road resident Bob Walters, who heard the crash, said the woman's car went through his two foot high garden wall and across his front garden, through the hedge to next door, clipping their car on their drive, and then through another hedge. Her car ended up two houses from Bob's.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, for a check-up, but was given the all-clear.

The collison, which saw debris scattered from the Esso petrol station, near the M42 roundabout, down to School Lane, involved a black Nissan X Trail, black Vauxhall Corsa, silver VW Golf and red VW Polo.

Speaking exclusively to the Advertiser/Messenger, Mr Walters said: "At the time I heard a noise, but thought it was thunder. Then I got a telephone call from my neighbour saying I needed to come outside as my wall had been knocked down. The VW Polo had gone through my wall and across my front garden, then through the hedge to next door and clipped their car. It then proceeded to go through their hedge and ended up two houses up from mine."

He said the road was then closed from the DIY store just past School Lane up to the Esso petrol station.

He added: "There was debris everywhere and the Highways Agency had to come out and clear it up. Everyone seemed to get out without any injuries, so they were very lucky."

A police spokesman said the Highways Agency was called to the scene to clear up and part of Birmingham Road was closed until the early hours of Monday morning.

Investigations into the collision are continuing and police have appealed for witnesses with information to call them on 08457 444 888.
