RUNNER Yvonne Priestman was in inspirational form as Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletic Club's ladies team sealed the Midlands Masters Track and Field League.

The team finished second in the final round to ensure that they were top of the league at Tipton.

Priestman got the team off to a strong start by winning the 200 metres sprint and was followed in second place by Polly Gerner.

In the 800m Priestman set new league and club records in her age group and finished third overall, while Caroline Cummings and Ann Stuart also finished strongly to earn valuable points for the team.

Janette Malin was runner-up in the 3000m, followed in third place by Emily Beacham, while Sharon Tonks won the two kilometre walk and Linda Crawley came fourth.

Julie Wakelam dominated the field events, winning the javelin, coming second in the discus and equalling her club record in the triple jump. Rita Brownlie secured valuable points in the triple jump and javelin.

The quartet of Wakelam, Cummings, Gerner and Priestman came second in the 4x400m relay to make sure that the team clinched the league.

l The men's team finished in mid-table in their league after coming fifth at Tipton.

The sprint trio of Barry Cooke, Alan Elsmere and Len Quartly got the men's team off the mark in the 200m event, while Paul Collins gained valuable points in the 3000m.

Mike Jones provided the highlight for the team when he won the discus, while Phil Carbutt was runner-up in the javelin and Mike Rudkin set a new club record in the shot putt.
