Bromsgrove Rovers 3 Rushall Olympic 1

Southern League Midlands Division One

DEFENDER Chris McHale grabbed headed goals in each half as Bromsgrove Rovers saw off a physical Rushall Olympic side to win their first home game of the season on Tuesday night.

Rovers had started powerfully and rushed into a 2-0 lead but hesitant defending by Paul Carty and Dean Coleman allowed Rushall to pull a goal back at the start of the second half and ensure a nervy 45 minutes for the home side.

Bromsgrove started aggressively and won four corners in a row. From the fifth set piece Rushall 'keeper Chris Gemmell could only fumble Kevin Banner's corner and McHale headed the ball into the back of the net in the seventh minute.

Richard Burgess doubled the home side's lead in the 34th minute when he collected McHale's lofted pass and finished coolly.

Rushall striker Tyrone Barnett took advantage of Carty and 'keeper Coleman's inability to deal with a punt forward to score two minutes into the second half.

Richard Brown then saw his 55th minute shot cannon off Rovers' post.

Kevin Banner almost grabbed a spectacular effort but Gemmell acrobatically tipped away his excellent free kick.

But McHale made sure of the points when he headed Banner's corner into the back of the net in 87th minute.
