THE FA Learning Grassroots Coach of the Year award in partnership with McDonald's has now been decided with the award for Worcestershire going to Frank Holliday of Droitwich Boys & Girls FC.

Holliday was one of many coaches to be nominated from the county with nominees having to describe in detail the qualities of the coach and the work they carry out within their organisation.

However, on the strength of the application the Droiwich coach achieved the prestigious award.

Holliday, aged 62, has been interested in football from an early age being involved in Essex and Bedfordshire before moving to Droitwich in 1973 and playing in the Worcester League.

"Football has come along way, I remember attending all the England group matches in the 1966 World Cup and paying 10 shillings (50p) for the privilege," said Holliday.

Since being a volunteer coach at Droitwich Spa Boys & Girls, he has contributed to the club's development which has grown from having one team when founded in 1979 to currently accommodating 30 squads from under six to Under 18.

Holliday has also played an integral part in the club achieving charter standard community club status, the highest category in the FA's charter standard criteria.

The Droitwich coach said: "I believe that playing soccer helps to develop children's social skills in building new friendships and giving them more confidence as well as helping to keep them fit.

"The game also offers the children the opportunity to improve through working on skills -- and of course it's fun!"

Currently Holliday coaches the development squads at Droit-wich as well as attempting to develop the club's volunteers by introducing parents to coaching.

Holliday added: "The success at Droitwich is down to the hard work of all that are involved in the club, however, it's great to be recognised for your efforts."

He received a McDonalds County Coach of the Year plaque, two complimentary tickets to the Community Shield and a £200 voucher courtesy of McDonalds to spend on coach education courses locally with a view to continue developing as a coach.
