Waltham Abbey (0) 0 Bromsgrove Rovers (1) 2

Bromsgrove wrapped up their pre-season games with a comfortable 2-0 win over Waltham Abbey at the Ryman League side's Capershotts ground on Saturday.

Rovers almost opened the scoring in the tenth minute, but 'The Abbotts' goalkeeper John Hickman pulled off a fabulous full length stop from Wayne Dyer's pile driver from the edge of the area.

An early chance for Waltham's Harry Elmes was wasted after he had got the better of Chris McHale, but fired over the crossbar without testing Dean Coleman in goal.

In the 28th minute Hickman pulled off a fine save at the foot of his post to deny a Kevin Banner effort. Neal Davis looped his header over the crossbar in the 40th minute from Stuart Skidmore's cross. Two minutes later Skidmore saw his fierce angled effort well saved by Hickman.

Waltham's Westley Forde and Nathan Lamey clashed as they challenged for the ball in the 44th minute. Referee Paul Faithful ruled in Lamey's favour and he obliged with a fierce daisy-cutter from 30-yards out, which fizzed past the diving Hickman and into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Manager Rod Brown made a series of substitutions in the second half, period using all the players in the squad.

In the 60th minute Coleman, who was a virtual spectator in the first half, came to Rovers rescue. Elmes broke through Rovers' offside trap, tried to sell Coleman a dummy but a full length dive at the striker's feet saw him come up with the ball and deny the striker.

In the 74th minute Ben Darwin's left wing cross was met by James Elmes, his effort was blocked and the loose ball fell to Luke Power, who fired straight at substitute Tim Clarke.

Clarke launched a long kick upfield, Sean Dear made a complete hash of an easy clearance, which allowed Richard Burgess to run in on goal. The striker took the ball around Hickman to slot home into an empty net.

Elmes fired a free-kick straight at Clarke from 25-yards out after Carl Heeley fouled Nicky Burt in the 81st minute. Paul Lloyd presented Darwin with a golden chance to score after a poor back pass towards Clarke, but the striker allowed the ball to run under his foot and let Clarke to clear.
