STUDLEY slipped further into the mire on a damp weekend which devastated the Birmingham League programme.

Handed a golden opportunity to notch some much-needed league points against a Bridgnorth side immediately above them in the Division two table, Richard Gregory's side were denied victory by the rain with their opponents flailing at 27-4.

"It was damp in the morning but we managed to bat it out in decent enough conditions," said Gregory.

"But after five overs in the field it started to come down and we managed two or three overs later on before it came down again.

"At 27-4 and having scored only 50 the week before we could have won it. The track was obviously assisting the bowlers which is probably why we only made 127."

A disappointing four points saw Studley slip further behind their opponents to sit seven points below the safety mark and facing a make-or-break bank holiday weekend.

And with matches against two of the top three sides Gregory's troops are in the thick of a relegation scrap.

Studley visit second-placed Aston Manor on Saturday and host third-placed Dorridge on Monday (both 12.30pm start).

"The only win we have had this season was against Aston Manor," added the Studley skipper.

"It is an important weekend but all our matches are critical at this stage.

"We have just got to go out and play and hopefully everyone will pick themselves up after the weekend because we know we should have won it."
