RESIDENTS in a quiet Basdey street have been entertained over the past few weeks by their new neighbours - two peahens which seem to have adopted the area.

The birds had been daily visitors to Seward Road for almost a month, according to local resident Brenda Cook.

"They seem to be quite happy to stay here," she said. "They spend hours in gardens and on garage roofs and have become quite a topic of conversation."

Neighbour Richard Jones said the birds appeared to have struck up a relationship with Wilson, his pet rabbit.

"They go along to his run and he chases them away again," he said. "It's all very amicable."

Richard said that when he contacted the RSPCA, "they advised me to ring round the local stately homes."

He added: "I said I was concerned about them being attacked by a fox but they said if a fox attacked them it would be the fox that regretted it."
