Tenbury 1 Bridgnorth Town Res 0

TEENAGE striker Christian Bright struck with an overhead scissor kick in the 70th minute to give Tenbury all three points in their West Midlands Div 1 opener.

His volley into the bottom left-hand corner of the net stunned the visitors into action and new signing Andy Adams was called on to make some outstanding saves in the last few minutes.

Tenbury left winger Ryan Morris could have wrapped things up in the 85th-minute when he rounded the keeper but he slipped as the ball bobbled and sliced wide.

Throughout, captain and central defender Matt Kurkus was a rock at the back and made a string of first-class challenges.

Manager Colin Powell said: "Kurkus gave a captain's performance, Adams was solid in goal and Bright was sharp. Including suspensions there were five players unavailable and the oldest player we put out was 24.''

He added: "For a team with an average age of 21, they have set me some selection problems for next Saturday. It was a great team performance and they all battled hard for each other. I wanted competition for places and I have got it. Although they are young, they know they can play at this level and it is starting to show.''

This Saturday, Tenbury are away to Bilbrook, kick off 3pm.
