A YOUNG girl from Pershore is enjoying her 15 minutes of fame after having one of her designs put on show at Millennium Point in Birmingham.

Emily Young, aged 15, entered a competition launched by BBC Midlands Today and Thinktank at the Birmingham Science Museum, called Design an Alien.

More than 100 youngsters entered the competition to have their design beamed onto the Planetarium Dome until Sunday, September 10 as part of the museum's Science of Aliens exhibition.

Emily was one of three winners. The others were Charlotte Melish from Worcester and Ashley Robertson from Newent.

Caroline Durbin, from Thinktank, said: "The judges were impressed by her eye-catching drawing of an alien known as Hooter. It was very colourful and innovative and showed a real talent for art.

"Emily and the other winners were presented with certificates, family tickets for Thinktank and the IMAX cinema and an alien goody bag."

Emily has also made an appearance on BBC's Midlands Today lunchtime news.

She said: "I am so happy to have won the competition. My design looks really good up on the dome like that. It was good fun to take part and being interviewed on TV. It was a bit scary but I had a good time doing it and I enjoyed designing Hooter."
