SOME of the UK's most talented poets will be exposing secrets, emotions and experiences at Birmingham Rep's The Door.

Leading performance poetry organisation Apples & Snakes presents Exposed at The Door from next Wednesday to Friday, September 1.

Exposed is an evening of spoken word performances presented five artists - Polar Bear, David J, Claire Williamson, Stickman and Yusra Warsama - who will take the audience through a night of poetry based on the theme of exposure.

They explore issues of political, personal and environmental exposure through performance styles from hip-hop to free verse to the breathtakingly beautiful.

Each performance features the five touring artists alongside a local host and guest poet including Leila Rasheed, Maxwell Golden, Simon Pitt and Kim Trusty.

Part of the evening will feature Birmingham's own Steve "Polar Bear" Camden.

Since debuting last year at Birmingham's Glee Club Steve has performed at poetry slams across the country and is currently involved with running the West Midlands Youth Slam.

He is a member of the West Midlands poetry collective The New October Poets and was winner of Warwickshire Words Slam 2005.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre's associate producer Amanda Roberts said: "Exposed offers audiences something different in its approach to new writing, with each writer's performance showing how versatile and vivid live literature can be."

Performances start at 7.45pm.

Tickets cost £8 (concessions £4) on 0121 236 4455 or www.the-door.co.uk
