A DRUNKEN mechanic swiped a man across the stomach with a bayonet after going to a house in Kidderminster.

David Talbot wanted to speak to the householder about drugs and concerns over his young son but the man was out and, instead, a visitor came to the door and was attacked, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Talbot, 27, of Baxter Avenue, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to common assault, possession of an offensive weapon and destroying property. He was jailed for nine months.

Judge John Cavell said he had tried to take the law into his own hands while fuelled by alcohol.

The victim, Matthew Collins, went to the house on January 26 but stayed on after the owner had gone out, said Jonas Hankin, prosecuting.

Talbot knocked on the door and demanded to see the householder before becoming violent through frustration.

Fortunately, Mr Collins stepped back and the 18-inch bayonet only caused a red mark.

Talbot then stabbed the door twice with the weapon and broke a window with his fist.

Dele Alakija, defending, said Talbot's former partner visited the house with their son.

He had reported the address to the police eight times as a possible drugs den.

Mr Alakija said Talbot acted "impulsively" because he was unable to confront the householder.
