AN animal charity is set to benefit when riders get their horses to put their best hooves forward in a fund-raising event.

The 12-mile Wyre Forest Ride, organised by sisters, Cordelia and Elaine Noble, takes place in Far Forest on Sunday, September 3.

An informal event, with fun as the theme, the ride has become an annual outing, with proceeds going to Brooke Hospital for Animals.

Cordelia, a freelance photographer who occasionally works for the Shuttle/Times & News, said: "On a holiday five years ago we witnessed horses being kept in terrible conditions.

"When we got home, we decided we would support Brooke every year, by organising a fun ride. This is our fourth year."

Brooke provides veterinary treatment for working horses and donkeys in developing countries, such as Egypt and India, as well as advice for their owners.

Elaine, a teacher at Wolverley High School, said: "More than half of the world's population now relies on horses and other working animals. This number is growing and means that what Brooke does is vital."

The ride will be signposted from Wyre Forest Visitor Centre and takes place off the A4117, between Bewdley and Cleobury Mortimer.

Riders can choose between 10-mile and six-mile options. There is a pub halfway round where they can break for refreshments or lunch.

Optional jumps are also set out along the route. Entry fees are payable on the day and are reduced for under-16s.
