POLICE colleagues and friends will be putting their best feet forward to raise money in memory of a popular Kidderminster beat bobby who lost his battle with leukaemia.

PC Christopher Greaves, who came from the Marlpool area and was the local officer for Comberton and Offmore between 2003 and 2004, died on June 24, aged 34.

Former colleague, PC Sian Davies, has organised a team of 15 runners, including 13 police officers from Kidderminster Police Station, to take part in a 10k charity marathon in his name.

It will take place on Sunday, September 3, and all the sponsorship money the team collects will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

PC Davies said: "We worked with Chris and we thought a lot of him. He was very popular and we wanted to do something for him in his memory.

"I think Chris was going to run it himself in May but was unable to do it. We want to raise as much money as we can in his honour. It is a big team effort and we are looking forward to it."

The 30-year-old, who had known Chris for four years, added the team had been in training for the event, which will take place at Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, and hoped to raise around £2,000.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the runners can contact Cancer Research UK directly on 020 7121 6699 or log on to www.10kspo
