WHILE Evesham's senior side were being frustrated by the weather on their Birmingham League Division Two travels, the second string recorded an emphatic success at Avon Street.

Luke Radford top scored with 66 as Evesham reached 189-9 from their 55 overs at Fordhouses before rain caused play to be abandoned.

Jon Gregory's all-round talents were to the fore in the home clash as his unbeaten 81 hurried the seconds to an eight-wicket triumph.

Andrew Fisher helped the opener add 74 for the third wicket and the target was passed in the 26th over.

Earlier, Gregory had taken 2-28 from 14 overs following two early strikes from James Cutler that reduced Coleshill to 75-4.

They had lost half their side ten runs later when Stewart Langstone took the first of his four wickets that came at a cost of 45 runs off 14 overs and helped restrict the visitors to 136-9 from 50 overs.

The next afternoon, the Silver Academy side restricted visitors Bromsgrove to 155-9 before from Marcus Humpston guided Evesham to a rapid seven-wicket win.

A soggy Saturday then turned into a sorry Sunday for the first team as the club's Gold Academy lost to Bromsgrove by two wickets in the Worcestershire Clubs League.

James Byrne's unbeaten 39 and 29 from Alex Harrison helped revive Evesham after they had slumped to 58-6 with only opener Chris Weaver joining the latter pair in double figures.

However, a total of 136 looked like being enough to force a victory when Gavin Spares and Danny Sproul picked up two wickets apiece as the chasers lost five wickets for 23 runs as they crashed to 112-8.

A couple of run-outs also helped Evesham's cause but Bromsgrove's ninth wicket duo brought them to within three runs of victory before the last pair joined forces to deny the visitors victory.
