CAPTAIN'S Day at Bro-adway saw some inte-resting pin positions that made for a testing morning round.

The shotgun saw 80 members playing a singles stableford competition for 18 prizes for various achievements.

Cool weather, fast greens and tricky pins kept the scoring low but it was Ric-hard Rouse, the only player to match par, who emerged triumphant with 36 points.

Second was Broadway Open winner Paul Wragby, who was within a couple of inches of holing his second shot at the 12th, with 34 points, while Gary Evans (34) lost out on the back nine to Joe William-son.

Prizes for the morning round were presented by club captain John Skinner after thanking the sponsors and his team of helpers.

The afternoon mixed team event saw slightly better weather but the same fast greens and tricky pin placings.

Played in teams of four with at least one member of the opposite sex in the team and best three scores to count, meant some excellent scores were returned.

The winning team with a superb 103 points comprised Tony and Joan Gisbourne, Patrick Walsh and Paul Billie who saw off the challenge of vice-captain Michael Hunt, wife Jackie and Nadine and Peter Simpkins who carded four points fewer.

The annual Centenary Trophy, a lovely replica of the world-famous Open Championship Claret Jug, was won by Dave Morris.

His net score of 66 (83-17-66) won on countback from 14-handicapper Steve Coldicott while Paul Wragby was third after a superb round of 71.

Tony Reeve was fourth (79-9-67), club president Arthur Godfrey was fifth with 79-11-68, while Lea-gue Team skipper Peter Sumner carded a net 68 off his new six handicap.

Senior member Tony Reeve produced a fine score of 76 at Tuesday's Seniors County Championships at Brickhampton Court where he was one of a trio of players to find himself pipped for the prestigious title by home player Bob Gibb.
