STOURPORT Swifts boss Roy Rencher has stepped up his search for a targetman after putting their dismal start down to a lack of firepower.

Swifts kicked off their Southern Football League Division One Midlands campaign with a 1-0 home defeat to Spalding and a 3-1 loss at Cinderford.

Despite the results, Rencher is content with the way his new-look squad are shaping up - other than in the attacking positions.

"It's up front where we've got problems," said Rencher who started both games with Andy Hodgetts and Kevin Brookes leading the line. "We've got no firepower and it's costing us.

"Everywhere else is fine. I can't knock the way we're playing defensively because even though we conceded three the other night that was only because we were chasing the game.

"I need a big, strong target-man. Somebody like Bewdley's Lewis Pountney would be ideal but they don't want to lose him."

Rencher is now contemplating resting Hodgetts and drafting in either Andy Burgess or Craig Marshall, a summer signing from Hednesford.

Swifts travel to Bedworth United on Saturday before Tuesday night's local derby with Bromsgrove Rovers.

Michael Langford is set to replace new signing Paul Fryer in goal for the double header while Mark Hands could also start after injury and suspension.
