REDDITCH Arrows' convincing 44-0 win over Reading Renegades ensured the Ash Lane-based side finished the regular season with a 10-0 record.

The Arrows host Dundee Hurricanes at Kings Norton RFC a week on Sunday in the play-offs.

In a perfect first quarter, a punishing ball-control running attack meant the Arrows defense faced only three plays.

Superb blocking by the offensive line enabled running-back Dave Mills several long runs before opening the scoring with a six-yard burst up the middle.

In the second quarter a promising Arrows drive was foiled when quarterback Richard Wilde was intercepted on fourth and goal from the five-yard line.

However it wasn't long before Redditch were knocking on the door again, and from six yards it was Mills' number that was called as he ran the ball in off right tackle.

Staying with the form runner, workhorse Mills added to his tally with the two-point conversion for 14-0.

Head coach Ian Hill used the second half to rest some starters and the offense was given excellent field position when safety John Ward batted an errant Renegades pass right into team-mate Andy Mortimer's hands, who then returned the ball 29 yards.

Minutes later, the Arrows were celebrating again as Dave Mills ran in his third touchdown, from the four-yard line, Riddell converting.

As the third quarter progressed back-up quarterback Alan Harris took over and scored the next touchdown from inches out, Riddell converting.

The final quarter saw the defense snuffing out Reading thanks to sterling play from defensive ends Noel Fischer (5 tackles, 2 sacks) and Matt Sheldon (4 tackles, 0.5 sack), whilst the offense continued to move the ball to end the day with a season high 360 yards on 55 carries.

Mills completed his fine day with a career best fourth touchdown on a two-yard plunge, with Riddell converting for a 35-0 lead.

Fellow running back Mark Collett increased the Arrow's lead with his own three-yard scamper in the dying minutes, with kicker Riddell again on target.

On the game's final play, a wild snap resulted in the Renegades having to recover the ball in their own endzone, conceding a two-point safety.
