"BECAUSE the park and pleasure ground committee of Malvern Urban Council consider coaching sessions equivalent to the playing of games, they have decided not to grant permission for Victoria Park, Malvern Link, to be used for two football coaching sessions next Sunday morning," reported the Gazette 50 years ago.
"The sessions, part of a Worcestershire FA coaching weekend for young players, were to have taken place both in the morning and afternoon.
"Although withholding permission for Sunday morning, the committee has given permission for the park to be used for coaching on Sunday afternoons. It is understood the reason for the refusal was because the council have a bye-law that no games shall be played on grounds under their jurisdiction before 2pm on Sundays.
"Mr F Salmon, of Malvern League executive and the WFA official in charge of the coaching weekend, said he did not see how coaching could be classed as actual playing. He added, however, that through the assistance of Radar Rovers FC, he had obtained the use of their ground in Leigh Sinton Road for the Sunday morning session."
