LEDBURY Carnival was revived in the 1970s and this year's crowd pleaser, the 32nd to be held since then, will rock to the sounds of Abba, The Who and other rock classics of the era.

The theme will be music, and 70s hits in particular will feature heavily, with tribute band performances on the main High Street Stage by Abba-Like and My Generation.

The grand procession, which will leave the rugby club at noon, after judging, and progress up New Street, into the High Street and along the Homend to Ledbury Primary School, is sure to rise to the occasion.

But August Bank Holiday Monday in Ledbury is always a family occasion, and this year will be no exception.

There will be a second stage area on St Katherine's car park, and "Elvis" himself is expected to put in an appearance at 4pm. Before then, attractions will include Flippo the Clown and the Malvern Samba Band.

Other events taking place on the car park include a giant inflatable helter-skelter and castle, a bucking bronco and the chance to experience weightlessness with Blanchard's Gyroscopes.

Phillip and Son's family amusements will bring swings and roundabouts to the town centre, and the plucky can tackle an "unclimbable" ladder.

Taste buds will be tickled with a pig roast by LDA Meats, and a host of other food vendors will include Ledbury Round Table, selling burgers and hot dogs.

The Ledbury Mobility Centre on St Katherine's car park will be open. Visitors will be able to borrow wheelchairs, scooter and macs.

The Volunteer Bureau will have a gazebo right outside the Mobility Centre, giving details of volunteering opportunities available in the Ledbury Area.

Over 20 charities will have stalls at the carnival this year, including Fair Trade, the Ann Brennan Foundation, Greyhound Rescue and Ledbury Community Voluntary Action.
