AN old path and bridge have been discovered by workers restoring the clock tower in North Malvern Road.

The blue brick path, leading from the main road to the tower's main entrance, was found about 1ft beneath the surface.

It is believed to date from 1825, when building work started on the tower, which housed a water tank. An old bridge on a rock face behind behind the tower has also been uncovered, having been hidden from view by undergrowth for many years.

Restoration started in July and is part of a £1.2 million scheme to renovate water features around the hills. It involves Malvern Hills AONB and Malvern Spa Association and is funded by lottery money. Work on the tower includes restoring the clock faces, repairing the roof and replumbing the water tank. It is expected to last another two months. The tower is owned by Malvern Town Council.
