PICNICKING in Priory Park and a glimpse behind the doors of the Masonic Hall were among the activities that brought Malvern Experience Week to a close.

The Picnic in the Park on Saturday (August 19) saw hundreds of people enjoy music, activities and a barbecue provided by Malvern Scouts.

Town centre manager Anthony Collis said there were around 200 people in the park at each stage of the day.

"It was nice, very pleasant and it finished just in time before the rain started," he said.

The event, which raised more than £200 for the County Air Ambulance, featured performances from jazz band So What, The Man in Black -- singer songwriter Clive John's tribute to Johnny Cash -- and classic 60s and 70s hits from The Pewke Band.

Elsewhere in Malvern, there was a rare chance for visitors to see inside the Masonic Hall, on Belle Vue Terrace, and learn more about Freemasonry's part in the local community. Located in part of the former Belle Vue Hotel, the hall, known as The Lodge Room, has been home to the Freemasons since 1911.

Jim Lomas, a spokesman for the Freemasons, said: "It was very successful. Over 100 people showed up. Malvern Experience was the ideal thing to hang it on."

Other activities over the weekend included puppet shows at the Theatre of Small Convenience, an open day at the Natural Health Centre, half-price entry at Malvern Museum and a water and wells walk on the Malvern Hills.
