SIR - The article by David Paine (Worcester News, August 18) headlined "Our train station is new and improved", while describing the window dressing which has recently been carried out at Great Malvern railway station, fails to mention its serious lack of basic facilities.

There is no waiting room on either platform, and, more seriously, there is never any porter available to assist people boarding or alighting from trains. Moreover, often when a train arrives, its guard fails to even alight on to the platform! Another serious shortcoming of this station is the way in which it closes its booking office at indeterminate times during the day and there are no members of staff available to deal with the public.

Rather than crowing over new bicycle facilities, Ged Burgess of Central trains ought to be addressing this deploring situation.

DENIS STANWORTH,

Malvern.
