CHAIRMAN Tom Herbert has lavished manager Rod Brown and his Bromsgrove Rovers players with praise after the club's best start to the season for four years.

Rovers have enjoyed their best start to a campaign since 2002/2003 and top the Southern League Midlands Division One after dropping just two points in their first four games.

With the league naming Rovers as the team of the month after a blister start to the season in August, the chairman couldn't be happier.

He said: "Rod (Brown) is proving that he is the right man for the job at Rovers, he's done a great job so far. He's got the atmosphere at the ground buzzing, he's built a team with lots of ability and a great spirit that never gives up."

Now the chairman has called on the fans who have not yet witnessed Brown's revolution at the club to come down to the Victoria Ground to see for themselves.

Mr Herbert said: "I think Rod and the team deserve even more fans to come down and watch them play.

"I'm sure that if we still keep getting the right results and maintain our good football the fans will come out to watch."

Rovers are certainly producing an exciting brand of football at the moment, after Saturday's 5-5 draw with Eastwood Town in the FA Cup preliminary qualifying round.

Despite being 5-1 down after 35 minutes in Nottinghamshire, Brown's battlers stormed back to tie the game 5-5.

It is a result that is set to go down in the club's history alongside the 4-3 win over Kidderminster Harriers in the Conference, when Rovers came from behind to win.

The chairman said: "Saturday's draw was a good example of what Rod has done. Last year if we'd been losing the match 5-2 we'd never have came back, but under the our current manager they had the ability, determination and togetherness to pull off an absolutely brilliant comeback.

"In my time at Rovers I've never seen a team like that come back, it was an incredible game. The players and management team should be congratulated."

Brown admitted that he had tried to remain calm during his half time talk during the Eastwood game, when his side were trailing 5-2.

He said: "I didn't shout at the players, I just asked how they were going to win the second half of the game. We had let down all the fans with the shocking defending in the first half.

"I thought we'd have a chance if we scored early in the second half and it went from there. I've never seen a game like that before."

"As bad as we played in the first half we played much better in the second and I was pleased with the way the players responded. The fans were also brilliant - they never stopped singing even when we were 5-1 down."

Striker Delroy Francis has gone on loan to Solihull Borough and winger Anthony Maguire is expected to make a return from Hednesford Town this week.
