Bromsgrove Rovers 2 Eastwood Town 0

FA Cup preliminary round replay

TWO second half goals saw off a powerful Eastwood Town side as Bromsgrove Rovers booked their place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup at the Victoria Ground on Tuesday night.

A fine long range effort by defender Joe Williams and an own goal by midfielder Alan Lamb late on finally killed off a tie that had seen 12 goals in two games.

Unlike Saturday's explosive 5-5 draw at Eastwood on Saturday this was a much more cagey affair, with the Nottinghamshire visitor's aerial power dominating the first half and Rovers' neat football commanding the second.

Rovers struggled to get into the game in the first half and Carl Heeley had to clear Paul Mitchell's goalbound header in the 11th minute.

Mitchell had another dangerous header blocked in the 26th minute from Chris Shaw's corner.

Rovers' first chance came in the 29th when Davis shrugged off two defenders but Kevin Banner's shot was blocked.

Taylor had to be alert to hold onto Lamb's low volley in the 34th minute.

Davis headed over the bar after Daire Doyle had shrugged off a defender on the right wing and crossed.

The home side came out looking more dangerous in the second half and Wayne Dyer and Mark Taylor combined to unleash Doyle down the left, but his cross was cleared.

James Smith unleashed a vicious shot across the face of goal and striker Neil Davis was unlucky not to connect as he slid in.

Williams opened the scoring in the 60th minute. He header Banner's corner toward goal, which Shaw cleared off the line. It fell to him 20 yards out and his half volley flew past goalkeeper Ian Deakin.

The defender had another good chance to double Rovers' lead but this time he directed Banner's corner over the cross bar.

The game was made safe in the 81st minute when Banner powered down the left wing and send in a cross. Lamb tried twice to control it but chested it into his own net.

Eastwood hit back and Deon Meikle swept Lamb's low centre just wide of the post in the 89th minute.

But substitute Nathan Lamey could have put the game beyond Eastwood during injury time. The forward powered into the penalty area but hesistated and allowed Ian Wheat to get in a strong challenge.
