DELICIOUS, delightful and de-lovely - and that's just the debutante's mother. Cole Porter's nautical comedy Anything Goes comes to Malvern Theatres on Monday, July 3, and with it brings American actress Sandra Dickinson, who plays Evangeline the mother of a young debutante about to marry into English aristocracy.

A familiar face from television shows such as The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy and Two Point Four Children, Sandra said she can't wait to be back in Malvern.

"It's such a beautiful place.

"I came last autumn when I was doing Daisy Miller. I'm looking forward to coming to Malvern, it's great."

Sandra is no stranger to the stage, having played, among other roles, the Baroness in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Blanche Debois in Streetcar Named Desire and now Evangeline Harcourt in Porter's multi award-winning musical, that first dazzled Broadway back in 1934.

"I enjoy being on stage and getting that immediate reaction from the audience and I do love to do the odd musical. I would love to do some more stage stuff after this. One of the nicest productions was the show I took to Broadway, Tennessee Williams' first play Not About Nightingales.

"It was my first play in my own country and I played a few really different roles."

Anything Goes was scripted by PG Wodehouse, and it gave Cole Porter the inspiration to write some of his most memorable songs, including You're the Top, It's De-lovely, Blow, Gabriel, Blow and the title song Anything Goes. It also stars Michael Starke, who played Sinbad in Brookside, and Barry Howard, better known as the Barry Stuart-Hargreaves, the champion ballroom dancer in Hi-Di-Hi!

Anything Goes runs at the Malvern Festival Theatre from Monday, July 3, to Saturday, July 8. Tickets, priced £19.50 to £28.50, can be booked through the box office on 01684 892277.
