A PARLIAMENTARY candidate has been left red-faced for distributing election material with the wrong spelling of the constituency he is standing in.

On the Vote! pamphlets sent out to thousands of homes in Worcester by Robin Walker, the Conservative party’s candidate standing in the city, the front page contains the words “Delivered free across Worcestor”. The pamphlets contain both local and national election material including words from party leader David Cameron. Proofs were sent to the Worcester Conservative office for staff to check before they were printed in their thousands.

But the embarrassing mistake, pointed out by residents who have received the pamphlet, was only brought to the attention of Mr Walker and his team by your Worcester News yesterday. A gobsmacked Mr Walker said: “At the end of the day this will have ‘Worcester’ in it over 10 times.

“Someone at the printers has made a mistake but what can you do? These things do happen when you are relying on other people to get stuff printed – you run into these difficulties. Clearly, Worcester features very prominently in everything we’re saying this election and it’s important we get these things right, and we will in the future.

“These things do happen in the rush of a campaign and obviously it’s silly and we need to make sure we do better. We are putting out tens of thousands of pieces of literature and we will make sure we quadruple check in the future.”

Matt Edmonds, Mr Walker’s election agent, said it was too late to recall the pamphlets or get them re-printed because the majority had already been delivered to people’s homes.

He said: “We have just got to put our hands up on this one. We always try so hard but this is just one of those things.”
