SCUM. That is the most appropriate word to describe thieves who are targeting sheltered housing complexes in Worcester. The criminals responsible for the raids are the lowest of the low.

Large plasma televisions have been taken from sheltered housing in Warndon and St John’s in the last couple of months.

Now Worcester Community Housing, which runs the complexes, is fitting new hi-tech security alarms to all its TVs as a result. The alarms stay with the TV set and continue to sound wherever the screen is taken.

We applaud WCH’s initiative but it is shocking that the organisation has to take these steps.

What kind of low-life breaks into a complex that houses people aged into their nineties?

What sort of scumbag steals the one item that most residents will rely on for entertainment and enjoyment?

It beggars belief that the criminal fraternity can plumb such depths.

We hope the new security systems being employed by WCH stop thefts such as these in the future.

What a shame that WCH has to spend money on alarms that could be better spent on other facilities in their sheltered housing facilities.

We have nothing but contempt for those responsible for these thefts from some of the most vulnerable people in Worcester.

If caught, we hope these burglars receive sentences that relate to the upset they have caused rather than just the value of the stolen items.
