BUSINESSES from across the county are limbering up to help out with a village’s historic charity run.

Crowle’s Gunpowder Plot 10k run on Sunday passes Huddington Court, where the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was hatched.

Last year, a record 670 runners raised more than £6,000 for good causes.

Local businesses have come forward to back the popular event with cash donations, prizes and equipment.

Boughton Fuel Oils are sponsoring the water stations and providing bottles of water at the finish line.

Sports injury physiotherapist Sarah Collier-Smith, who is based at Lyppard Medical Centre in Worcester, will be available for brief assessments and advice to runners at the event.

Photographers yourraceday.co.uk have financed the race numbers and a range of local firms are providing road cones, banners and van hire.

Event organiser Lee Turner said: “Every penny we raise from business sponsorship or entries means more money to boost our charitable cause of improving sporting and social facilities for local parishioners. With the fantastic generosity of so many local companies and business people we look set for another very successful fund-raising effort.”

The 10k run will start at 11.30am. The fun run, open to all, will start at 10.30am and includes a quarter-mile for young children and their adult helpers and a timed, one-mile race for under-16s, with trophies for the first three boys and first three girls.

Athletic Association affiliated runners will pay £10 and unaffiliated runners £12 for the 10k run, with an extra £1 for entries on the day. Entry for the fun run is £3.

Registration will be from 9.30am on Sunday, for on-the-day entries and for pre-entered runners to collect their race numbers. Go to crowle-online.co.uk/roadrace for an entry form.
