LIBRARIES in Worcester will soon be opening their doors for an extra 34 hours a week.

Worcestershire County Council’s libraries and learning team is revising opening times for 20 of its libraries, including extra hours for the main Worcester Library in Foregate Street and branches at St John’s and Warndon.

The changes, which are a direct result of a library user survey, will come into effect on Tuesday, June 1.

As well as finding out library users wanted a revision of opening hours, the survey revealed that 97 per cent of library members thought facilities could be classed as ‘good’ or ‘very good’.

Kathy Kirk, interim head of culture and community services, said: “After extensive consultation about opening hours as part of the annual customer survey, and by talking to regular library customers, we have revised the opening hours of libraries right across the county.”

The changes, which will affect 17 other libraries across Worcester-shire, mean that county libraries will soon be opening for an additional 34 hours a week.
