THE Corbett Group of Women’s Institutes held their spring group meeting, which was hosted by Crowle WI, at 7.30pm on Friday April 16. President Janice Birch welcomed nearly 70 members from eight local WIs.

Following a short business meeting, Julia Rogers from WFWI told us about the foundation and development of Denman College and the courses which are on offer to WI members and non-members.

The main speaker for the evening was Reg Moule, who can be found at David’s Nurseries or heard on BBC Hereford & Worcester local radio. He answered many questions on gardening and, if we take notice of all he had to say, the plants in our gardens and homes will be the healthiest, greenest, most colourful and bug free in the country. He ended the informative and amusing question time by telling us how to deter uninvited cats from our gardens – it made us all laugh but would have a different effect on the cats!

While enjoying delicious refreshments, those at the meeting completed a gardening quiz. The numbers of the winning raffle tickets were read out.

A vote of thanks to Crowle WI was given by the president of Droitwich Spa WI who will host the next group meeting on Thursday, October 14, at the Heritage Centre in Droitwich.
