CLIFTON’S April meeting started well with congratulations all round.

As March was the group meeting there were many happy memories.

The meeting had been lively, beginning with a tuneful rendition of Jerusalem led by two Clifton songsters. Members and guests wore something red, the tables had red flowers on them, and the soups were red.

The speaker, Paul Maguire, had an old-fashioned charm and some entertaining accounts of his life as a redcoat at Butlins.

Then onto the speaker for the April meeting and author Cynthia Waterman talked about her book, Mad Dogs and an English Girl.

Members were entertained by her anecdotes, and were enthusiastic about reading the book for themselves. Cynthia writes as she speaks and her book holds many fascinating insights into post-war Spain.

Clifton’s Cookery Club continues to flourish. Cooks had enjoyed their last meeting – English recipes. It had been a superb lunchtime gathering with starters, mains and puds sampled and discussed. The next cookery club will be ‘salads’.

Members were signed up to go to the miniatures workshop led by Pauline Bamber at WI House in Hallow.

Members were encouraged to bring bras to the village hall for a photo shoot to publicise the attempt to break the Guiness Book of Records record for most bras joined together.
