BARGAIN Hunt came to North Claines WI May meeting with a members’ auction.

We even had our own Tim Wonnacott in the form of Bob Oakley who also sported a dapper bow tie. Our members had searched high and low – well upstairs and downstairs – and had come up trumps with all the items that they brought for sale.

After debating this year’s WI resolution calling for all meat, fish and poultry products to be clearly labelled with their country of origin – which was passed overwhelmingly by our members – Bob took to the floor armed only with his gavel.

It was in full use for the next hour knocking down this, that, and the other to our members who bid furiously at times against one another. We even hit the giddy heights of £8 for one item. As fickle as any auction, some items remained unsold and one did not reach its £1 reserve.

It was a completely novel event for us and it turned out to be a very successful evening with our members entering into the fun.

Our next meeting is at 7.15pm on Wednesday, June 2, at Bishop Allenby Hall, St Stephen’s Church, Droitwich Road, Worcester, when Janet Clemas will talk to us on ‘detox your house’. More details may be found at northclaineswi.moonfruit.co.uk.
