HOSPITAL bosses have met with five out of six of the county’s new MPs to share with them their vision for the future of Worcestershire’s hospitals.

MPs Harriett Baldwin (West Worcestershire); Mark Garnier (Wyre Forest); Sajid Javid (Bromsgrove); Karen Lumley (Redditch), and Robin Walker (Worcester) met with representatives of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust board.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss working together to improve health services for patients, their families and carers at the Alexandra, Kidderminster and Worcestershire Royal Hospitals.

Peter Luff, MP for Mid-Worcestershire, was unable to attend due to prior commitments.

Michael O’Riordan, chairman of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Health is an incredibly important issue for the local people and understandably high on the MPs’ agendas. As a board, we were keen to meet our new MPs as soon as possible to impress upon them that our priority as a trust is always patient safety and ensuring the highest quality healthcare services.

“It was a chance to explain how we are working towards our vision of local care for local people by engaging with GPs, shadow governors and our members to help us develop the local services we could offer.”

“It was an excellent first meeting and we were also able to give reassurances about future high profile developments in the county, such as the introduction of radiotherapy facilities, as well as the building of a dedicated breast care unit.

“We were impressed by the MPs’ commitment to tackling unnecessary bureaucracy in the system and were able to put forward our views on how, at the heart of any external scrutiny, must be the aim to improve patient experience.”
