WORCESTER’S new MP has got straight down to constituency business with his first surgery.

And Conservative Robin Walker was pleased to resolve his first case fairly easily.

Mr Walker had five appointments with residents at the Guildhall, High Street, last Saturday and said he was pleased he could be of help.

He said: “Doing something such as the surgeries brings home the amount of help needed across such a number of different areas – relating to health, the police, the CSA and council. It’s a great insight into the breadth of areas that you need to advise as an MP.

“Each case is very different, and people need help from someone in authority – and as an MP I have a responsibility to be there for people,” he said.

Mr Walker said he was planning to have a surgery about two weeks out of three, on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. “I want it to be so people will be able to feel as if they can come and see me. Holding it on these two days should mean if people have a problem they will be able to come to the surgery,” he said.

“What is quite satisfying is that the first person that I spoke to I was able to resolve the case fairly easily.

“The other cases need a bit of work, but I am glad they felt that they could come to me,” he said.

Mr Walker has already had a taste of his role both locally and nationally, having spent his first day in Westminster representing Worcester.

He said: “There is a lot to do and it is still quite a novelty to me.

“It’s a new job for me, a new challenge. To be in politics now is very exciting.”

Mr Walker said bookings for future surgeries can now be taken.
