A TALENTED Worcester teenager is set to perform at the UK’s only Bob Dylan festival.

Eighteen-year-old singer-songwriter and keyboardist Becky Rose, who is well known on the Worcestershire music scene, has won a slot at Dylanfest.

Now in its third year, the festival, which takes place in Manchester in August, attracts acts from all over the UK and is one of only eight dedicated Dylan festivals staged throughout the world.

Becky, who lives in St John’s and is currently taking A-levels in film studies, English and music technology at Worcester Sixth Form College, said: “I’m thrilled to have been chosen to perform.

“It’s a real privilege as the acts come from all over Europe to play. I love the poetry and depth in Dylan’s writing, especially the mixture of isolation and hope in the song I Shall be Released.”

Becky, who has also taken part in the annual Dylan Night at Worcester’s Marr’s Bar, said her favourite Dylan song is I’ll Keep it with Mine because of the “lovely melody and enigmatic way it suggests we should treasure each moment”.

She said: “This year has been a really big year for me.

“I have had my music played on the BBC and I am hoping that the festival will help me raise my profile elsewhere.”

The annual tribute to the music legend that is Bob Dylan, who is 69 years old and still touring, takes place at in Levenshulme in Manchester from Friday, August 27.

Becky will perform at the blues night on the Saturday and will be joined by the likes of five-piece blues band Oyster as well as acclaimed Limerick singer Keith Forde.

Earlier this year Becky, whose original compositions are described as alternative electro, reached the top of influential online music chart Reverbnation (reverbnation.com). She went to number one in the alternative category and got to number eight for Midlands artists – not bad for a teenager who only started performing live 18 months ago.

Since taking to the stage, Becky has gigged throughout the UK and performed at the Tryangle Awards Ceremony, a Worcestershire County Council initiative to celebrate and recognise young people living locally. She will also be playing the Minifest in Cripplegate Park, Worcester, on Saturday, June 26.

Becky said: “I’m really excited about how it’s all going for me at the moment.

“It’s hard work with my A-levels too, but hopefully it will be worth it.”

Tickets to Dylanfest, priced £8 for a weekend pass, are available at m19bar.com.
