HEALTH bosses are launching a series of events to reduce falls in Worcestershire of which there are around 1,500 each year.

This year’s campaign, called “Get up and GO”, has been launched by NHS Worcestershire in partnership with Age UK.

A National Falls Awareness event organised in partnership with Redditch Borough and Bromsgrove District Council is set to take place on Thursday, June 24, between 10am and noon at the Town Hall in Redditch.

In Worcestershire around 1,500 people over 65 are admitted to hospital each year due to injuries sustained following a fall.

A range of information stalls will also be present including Sight Concern, Deaf Direct, Princess of Wales Community Hospital, Citizens Advice and many more.

Visitors will also get the opportunity to have a health MOT and get their blood pressure, height, weight and BMI measurements checked.

To avoid falls and keep bones healthy people are advised to clear clutter, make sure stairwells are clearly lit, keep active, eat a balanced diet, have regular eye tests, have medication reviewed regularly by a GP and ensure shoes and other footwear like slippers fit properly.

Further events will take place around the county between June 21 and 25.
