Folk-lovers need to be light on their feet

PEOPLE are being encouraged to dance the night away in aid of Worcester’s official music festival.

Organisers of the 2010 Worcester Music Festival, taking place in August under the umbrella of the Worcester Festival, are holding fund-raising ceilidh on Friday, July 16.

The party, inspired by traditional celtic get-togethers, will take place at the Worcester Arts Workshop in Sansome Walk and feature the Worcester-based Whole Caboodle Electric Ceilidh Band playing a mix of old and new folk tunes in a bid to get all guests on their feet.

The party will raise money for folk workshops and performances at the city festival, now in its third year.

The festival, wholly run and organised by volunteers, aims to promote and encourage local, original live music and will this year see over 100 acts play in pubs, clubs, cafes, and historic buildings throughout Worcester between Friday, August 20 to Sunday, August 22.

Money raised will be split between Worcester Wheels, a community transport service for the elderly, disabled and people unable to use public transport and Worcester Snoezelen Centre, a multi-sensory centre for people with physical, sensory or learning disabilities.

Ceilidh organiser John Taylor said: “This promises to be a great event. No previous experience is necessary because the caller will take everybody through all the moves so that they know what to do.

“And if it all goes wrong, well, that’s half the fun.”
