THE headteacher of one of Worcester’s top high schools has become an executive head of another in Redditch.

Alun Williams has been headteacher at Nunnery Wood High School for eight years and was approached by Worcestershire County Council to also lead Arrow Vale High School in Redditch until the new year.

Mr Williams said: “Arrow Vale High School found itself without a headteacher at quite short notice and I was asked if I would take the lead until a new one could be found.

“I had already done a little bit of mentoring at the school. The governors had been asked if I could head the school for a period of time, and they agreed. I will be here as executive head until December, so it’s just over six months.

“The plan will be to appoint a new headteacher during this time, to start in January.”

Mr Williams said that he would still be keeping the running of the Worcester school to a high standard due to his top team of staff.

Deputy headteacher Jill Dillon will now be acting headteacher.

He said: “It was nice to be asked to take on this role and it is a great in terms of development for me and my skills.

“It is also good for people at Nunnery Wood, as many have been given additional responsibilities,” he said.

However, Mr Williams said that governors at the school would not have agreed to the change if it would diminish the learning of pupils at Nunnery Wood.

“There will be benefits for the pupils and staff and the governors wouldn’t have allowed it if the children would suffer in any way.

There is also huge potential at Arrow Vale and it will become a really good school,” he said.

Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for children and young people (12-19 years), said: “We are increasingly seeing more collaborations between schools.

“This is an example of an outstanding school helping others to raise their performance and we welcome such collaborations.”
