A RURAL school has been rewarded for its excellence in arts.
Arts Council England has awarded an Artsmark gold status to Suckley Primary School in recognition of the village school’s commitment to arts education. The school in Suckley, near Worcester, is one of the 1,676 schools across England which have received an Artsmark award this year.
Headteacher Matthew Meckin said: “I am delighted the Arts Council has recognised Suckley’s dynamic arts education programme.
“Our children have really enjoyed working with artists like Filbert Splosh, Eek Batik and Jon the Potter. And the music provision in the school continues to excel, with Mr Bancroft delivering high quality violin lessons for our children on a voluntary basis.
“Artsmark is more than simply a mark of distinction for us; taking part in the scheme has enabled us to develop our arts provision, and see the children who take part become more selfconfident, engaged and excited about learning.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff for their hard work in achieving this award”
A spokesman for Arts Council England said the award recognises Suckley Primary School’s commitment to providing exciting art experiences and their belief in the power of creativity.
