UP-TO-DATE technology is being used in a Worcester school to help raise standards.

Children in year 6 at Fairfield Community Primary School in Carnforth Drive are being encouraged in independent learning.

Every pupil has an Apple iPod touch, which they are using to support cross curricular learning in the classroom.

Pupils have palm-of-thehand access to the internet, apps to support the learning of basic skills and educational video to support their learning.

Headteacher Justin Schiffmann said: “A good curriculum allows children to make decisions and research their learning themselves, with support from the teacher.

Technologies such as this provide an ideal opportunity for pupils to apply learning and move forward at their own pace.

“Pupils have been using the technology for a few weeks now and have used them to support learning in Maths, English, Geography, Spanish and Art.

“It is always exciting to take modern technology into the learning environment.

“Modern life is about any time, any place information access and as a school we wish to offer this to our pupils.”
