A VILLAGE lollipop lady is retiring after 14 years.
Megan Millichip retired as school crossing patrol at Kempsey Primary School, near Worcester, yesterday.
Mrs Millichip, of St Peter’s, Worcester, has been connected with the school since 1979 when her first daughter Nicola started at the school.
Her second daughter Deborah and her son Ian also attended the school, when she started as a dinner lady before moving on to become the lollipop lady.
“I am really sad to be leaving and have seen a lot of children safely across the road and pass through the school,” she said. “For me it will be a semi-retirement as I have an elderly aunt that I am looking after. I just thought it was time to give up a little bit of my duties, but I will be sad to go. I have lots of friends in the village because of this job, and it will be the end of an era.”
Headteacher Adrian Osborne said: “We want to thank her for all her years of service.”
Worcestershire County Council said interviews had been held for the position, and, subject to checks, someone would take up the post in September.
