Preschool is first of its kind for disabled Worcester children

A NEW nursery has opened in Worcester specifically designed to cater to the needs of disabled children.

Local postmaster Steve Goode opened the New Hope Nursery, in Wells Road, Ronkswood, on the site of Worcester Community Housing’s old neighbourhood office.

The nursery was set up by parent Jean Wilson and Evesham nursery and pre-school owner Sallie Wyatt.

It will offer dedicated provision for children aged three to 19 with severe disabilities and complex health needs and includes for the first time in the city a preschool facility for disabled children.

It has earned the support of many organisations including the National Lottery, which gave funding of £10,000, Worcester Round Table which gave £7,000 and Mencap which gave £15,000. Ms Wilson said: “The support we have received has been overwhelming.

“People often say community spirit has disappeared, well its going strong in Ronkswood and I’m really humbled by all the hope New Hope has received.”

Wonderful to see this facility is open, a much needed service in this city. Well done to all involved and I wish you every success for the future.

This is great news, however Fort Royal Community Primary school accept children into their nursery from age 2 for SEN assessment and many of them go on to the reception classes within the school, so its not quite true that this is the only pre-school facility available..

Janedoe82 is correct re the nursery assessment unit at fort royal. We at New Hope are not an assessment unit! we are a pre-school nursery for children with special needs, which is why we are saying we are the first specialist pre-school in Worcester, prehaps it should read 'the first specialist pre-school in worcester (outside of Fort Royal Assessment Unit) Hope that clears up any misunderstanding. Thanks for everyones good wishes, much appreciated
