ROLLER-bladers will be showing off their skills at a Worcester skate park.

Inline skaters are invited to the Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club, Droitwich Road, on Saturday, August 28.

Prizes are on offer for the best tricks, most improved skater and other categories, with judging from Worcestershire-based skate manufacturer Slaptap.

Rachel Betteridge, the skate park’s youth lodge manager, said skaters who used the park had put the event together.

She said: “We’re expecting plenty of people. We want a big gathering and it’s a chance for them to show what they can do.

“The skaters have organised it themselves and we’ve had a lot of support from Slaptap, who will be running the day.”

The free event is running from noon with exhibitionists encouraged to show off their tricks and skills, as judges pick out those they think are putting in the commitment.

Skaters can take a breather and watch demonstrations of tricks by Slaptap crew members, or step inside the lodge where there will be other activities, including pool and DVDs.

Then on Sunday, September 12, there is a BMX jam and competition with up to 150 riders expected on the day.

“There are set areas of competition for riders to contest, such as the best hop” said Miss Betteridge.

The youth club skate park is open every day from 8am until 9.30pm, and the youth lodge is open from Monday to Friday, 3.30pm to 9.30pm.
