A MUM-of-three claims her family will be forced to sleep in a tent when their home is repossessed.

Teresa Ledbury, who has three daughters aged eight, 12 and 18, has a tent outside their soon-to-be repossessed house in Wharfedale Crescent, Droitwich.

Mrs Ledbury failed to keep up her mortgage payments after the building company she ran with her former husband closed down, leaving her without an income.

She has struggled to get a property through Wychavon District Council and the Home Choice Plus scheme. The 40-year-old, who is adamant the family must stay in Droitwich, said: “I don’t want to be a drain on the system.

“I just need a roof over my head so I can get a job and get back on my feet. The girls need some stability in their lives after a divorce and losing their home. They need to be in Droitwich.”

The family is still living in the house, but the property is due to be repossessed and boarded up this week.

Until then, they will carry on applying for houses through Home Choice Plus, the scheme which enables residents on the housing lists to ‘bid’ for homes across Worcestershire.

Last week 4,342 people applied for housing in Wych-avon. There were only 10 properties in the area available, and only four of those were in Droitwich.

Liza Handley, Wychavon’s principal housing officer, said the council had offered Mrs Ledbury advice and support. “We also offered her temporary accommodation (bed and breakfast) in Worcester until something became available in Droitwich and found a private let in Droitwich, but she turned both down,” she said.

As previously reported in your Worcester News Wychavon District Council is carrying out an “intensive” review into the Home Choice Plus scheme.

It will look at the fact that 4,140 people last year applied to live in the district where there are just 499 property vacancies.
