A NEW NHS dentist with capacity to register nearly 10,000 patients is to open at the site of a former women’s refuge in Worcester.

Gentle Dental Worcester is scheduled to open at 26 London Road, the former site of the Asha Women’s Centre, by Monday, November 1.

Gentle Dental will be the sister practice of Gentle Dental Evesham, established five years ago, and will have four full-time professional dentists based over three floors.

Dr Mohamed Wadee, one of the practice partners who will work as a dentist at the new practice, said work was now continuing to renovate and modernise the building so it was ready for the opening.

Dr Wadee said 20 people, reading the large banner outside the practice, had already called the number and expressed their interest in registering.

“It’s a very modern practice, a state-of-the-art practice with a large capacity,” he said.

The practice will be served by seven parking bays at the front, two of which will be for disabled people.

Dr Wadee also stressed that there were public car parks nearby and the practice was accessible via train and bus and would be easy to access for disabled people.

Dr Wadee said: “We want to build a good relationship with our patients so they see the same dentist all the time. We want continuity of care.”

The practice will offer the full range of dental services for adults and children such as fillings, root canal work, crowns, bridge work, ‘aesthetic’ dentistry to improve the appearance of teeth and some minor dental surgery which does not require referral to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.

He also said the practice would have the latest technology, including cameras which could be used, for example, to promote better oral hygiene among patients.

A spokesman for NHS Worcestershire said: “We are delighted that another NHS dental practice will soon be opening in Worcester as part of an ongoing campaign to make NHS dentistry even more widely available across the county.”
