THE family of a much-loved member of the community who died in July are to hold a celebration night in his memory.
Desmond Symonds, of Station Road, Bransford, near Worcester, who was made an MBE for his services to the community, was 79 when he died at St Richard’s Hospice.
His family will be holding the event at the memorial hall at Leigh Sinton on Friday, September 24.
Mr Symonds used to work on the railways, became the chairman of the village hall committee and is known throughout the area for his work with the Royal British Legion, where he was the chairman of the group that meets in Leigh.
He also worked with local community centres to make sure young people in the town had enough things to do in their spare time.
The evening, which starts at 8pm, will include music from Alan Williams, who was a particular favourite of Mr Symonds.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the memorial hall, of which he was a chairman, and to which he had given many years of service.
Tickets, which cost £5, can be reserved by calling either 01886 821736 or 01905 425793.
